Established in 1981, the Federation of Islamic Medical Associations is a global organization that aims to provide a platform for member organizations and Muslim healthcare professionals from around to world to exchange knowledge and experiences, including in the areas of medical education and medical ethics from an Islamic perspective; increase global health capacity;  strengthen solidarity and awareness-raising among Muslim medical students; share experiences in the areas of diagnosis and treatment services within the framework of Islamic principles; and organize various international health and humanitarian activities.

The annual FIMA Council Meetings, in which all FIMA members, associate members and their representatives participate, took place in Turkey in 1998 and 2007, and will take place for the third time between 18-19 July, 2017.
